OUR STORY

Why I created Bolo

Hey mama (or baba!)

My name is Alina. I'm a Pakistani mom living in Dubai, and like most parents in our circle, my husband and I speak to each other in English at home, even though we're both fluent in Urdu.

When my daughter was born, I realized that unless we made a conscious, daily effort to bring Urdu into her life (at an early age when she can pick up languages easily), she would grow up without it.

Not because she couldn't learn it, but because nothing in her world was making it easy, natural, or fun. Every early learning tool we had in our library was in English.

I started looking around for Urdu early learning products and couldn't quite find what I was looking for – something high quality, fun to use, and that includes Roman English text. Because let's be real, most of us don't read or write in Urdu, and it may be a stretch to assume our kids are going to.

And that's when Bolo Early Learning was born – an easy and fun way to make Urdu a part of her daily routine, while also making it easy for us expat parents to use as well!

What Makes Bolo Different

Most Urdu learning products are not made for families living abroad. They use only Urdu script, which many expat parents find difficult to read confidently. Bolo cards include Roman Urdu so any parent, fluent or not, can sit down and play with their child without hesitation.

We also knew the cards had to be built to last. At 4x6 inches, printed on 350gsm card stock, matte laminated with rounded corners, they are made to survive curious little hands day after day.

And because children learn best when they can connect words to the real world, every Bolo card uses photo-realistic images instead of cartoons. This helps children build a genuine association between the word and the object from day one.
